The Game of Village

Work at Village

The elementary and middle-school aged participants in the Game of Village imagine together and create together a miniature town complete with in-scale buildings, little people called ‘peeps’, a working economy, and a town government.  This unique community-building experiment originated in Nelson NH over 50 years ago and has been shared with schools and kids across the US and across the globe.

Village is a cross-curricular and civic education enrichment activity used in elementary and middle schools as part of the curriculum, as an after-school activity – and as a summer camp. Most important of all IT IS FUN!

We seek summer camp counselors who like to play and create, and who are eager to learn an innovative, progressive, experiential education curriculum.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  •  Playfulness combined with thoughtfulness
  • Interest in community building, democracy, and civic engagement
  • Ability to collaborate and share leadership with all ages
  • Previous camp or teaching experience is required
  • Crafting, artistic or woodworking skills are desirable
  • Musical talent and an ability to lead camp singing and/or lifeguarding certification is particularly welcome.

Counselor responsibilities include leading camp activities, designing mini-lessons, supervising the use of tools & craft/building materials, and playing the Game of Village in the role of a “commissioner”, i.e. someone sent by the Federal Peep Government to assist in the establishment of a new peep community.  Please consult our website https://thegameofvillage.org/ to learn more about the program and see some pictures of the camp in operation.

Please provide a resume and letter of interest to us at info@thegameofvillage.org – feel free to contact us at this address with any questions.
